Assalammualaikum and hello to all.. Entry kali ni RNS nak ceritakan pengalaman MET and interview di MSU untuk program Medicine Bachelor and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). Actually my friends banyak tanya about my next step in studies since i tolak offer USM and UPU in Electrical Engineering dekat UMP. So this is my story straight from my heart and sorry bahasa tunggang-langgang sikit.
Overall, my journey towards pursuing my dream to study MBBS bukanlah senang (walaupun x sure dapat lagi ke tak). To be honest, my CGPA bukanlah 4.00 so probability nak dapat tempat di IPTA in MBBS memang 0.000000000001. So, i try IPTS and chose Management and Science University (MSU).
But not every ipt akan buat ujian kemasukan. Berbeza dengan MSU; kalau you nak apply MBBS you have to sit for entrance exam. At first I thought MET macam ujian munSyi USM. So bolehla lepak-lepak je sebelum exam. Tapi sebenarnya tak!
Hari tu postlaju datang rumah and i was very excited to get a sample of questions from MSU. Bila i bukak sample, I was shocked like hell! What the ...?! Paper Biology, Physics, Chemsitry and Maths?! Oh great! Bagus sangatlah tu. I got only 5 days before MET and I need to study all 4 subjects for the whole semester which I had left 5 months since March! To be truth, soalan sample memang sangat2 complicated and its not easy as i tought.
The day for MET came and I was so nervous thinking what would be the questions like. Pagi tu register dulu sebelum test and applicants on that day lebih kurang 80 orang. Alhamdulillah MET boleh la jugak jawab walaupun there’s no chance to get perfect marks. Soalan yg tak tahu tu memang banyak. So apalagi, bulat-bulat je lah. Okay, cukup setakat tu tentang MET. We were all separated into groups untuk setiap interviewer. Dia jugak pesan, “Peringatan untuk siapa-siapa yang dapat dekan sebagai interviewer; you all bersiap-sedia ye..”
Bila I keluar je exam hall I checked my name for the interview session. Okay, redha je.. I am one of the 8 special applicants yang dapat dekan IMS. So, memang kena bersiap-sedialah nampaknya.
Keesokan harinya yang sangat mendebarkan- Interview.
Pagi tu alhamdulillah I’m fine. Tak de masalah kesihatan. Tapi pagi tu tersedu. Nasib baik tak berlarutan sampai interview. Kalau tersedu waktu interview memang OMG!
Sebelum interview memang I’m calm. Mungkin sebab dah pernah hadir interview for JPA scholar hari tu. Waktu tunggu dalam room sebelah lab anatomy tu berbual la sekejap dengan applicants lain. Semua macam teragak-agak what would be the questions the interviewer might ask. About half an hour macam tu, pintu bilik terbuka and semua orang tiba2 senyap. Suddenly my name was called! And I’m the only one. I stood up from my sit and headed towards the door. Waktu mengorak langkah semua other applicants stared at me. Dalam hati berbisik, “Apehal pandang-pandang aku ni?! Whatever la.. I have to be confident!”
Sebelum masuk bilik dekan, I knocked the door and bagi salam. No response. She was busy looking at my documents.
Without looking at me she said, “Sit.”
“Thank you.”
Suddenly she spoke, “Why don’t you give me your certified copy of SPM result? I want it now.”
I was stunned. Dalam kepala ligat cari jawapan for her request. “I’m sorry Prof. I thought the form stated that certified copy of SPM result is for those who are .....”
“I don’t care. I want it now!” Dalam hati aku berbisik, ‘Apehal pulak dia nak spm copy sedangkan dalam borang tu tulis SPM hanya untuk pemohon program Diploma je.’
“Again i’m sorry Prof. I don’t have the certified copy but I have the original SPM certificate with me now.” Luckily I brought it in my file.
“I want certified copy.”
Okay, dia nak certified copy jugak! But I don’t have it now okay! Sabar-sabar.. She’s just testing you dear. I stay quiet je sambil letakkan file atas meja dia. I showed her my original SPM certificate. At first beliau x nak pandang pun. But she knows that she had no other choice but to accept it.
“Okay. Tell me about your past school activities.”
So, i told her about my past activities. Bla bla bla...
“Why do you want to be a doctor?”
“The main reason I want to be a doctor because I have a very keen interest in this field of medicine. Apart from that, my family does support me. And I also want to be a good example towards them.”
“Any other reasons?”
“Yes. I also see that it’s cool to be a doctor. People will trust you to share their personal problems which sometimes they could not even share with their partners or family.....”
Before I could explain further she interrupted, “So you want to be a doctor because you want to hear other’s problems?”
“That’s not what I meant. It’s just at the same time I want to help them with their problems. I also admit that a career as a doctor is not as easy as it seems. But I trust that every career has its own challenges and I am ready to face any circumstances in the future.”
“What do you expect IMS will give you?”
“I am very confident that IMS will give me a good quality of studies in medicine. I am also very proud to acknowledge that MSU is one of the top Universities in Malaysia which was ranked 5 stars by MQA.”
“Really?” She started to show her interest in my words. “Where did you find it?”
“I checked on MQA’s website. MSU was ranked as excellent university in SETARA 2009 par to other top IPTAs.”
“Oh, yes yes.” She nodded.
Dalam hati I felt relief. ‘Alhamdulillah.. beliau mula tunjuk minat untuk dengar apa yang aku cuba sampaikan.’
“Okay, you may go now.”
“Before that may I ask you several questions, prof.?”
“Yes?” She stopped writing and pay attention on me.
“What are my chances in getting into IMS?”
“Oh, I don’t know. I’m just interviewing you. The rest are based on your test and the committee to decide.”
“Do you personally have any suggestions for me in pursuing medicine?”
“Suggestions? In what way?”
“In case I don’t get the chance to enter MSU...”
“Why would you say so? You already said that you believe in MSU.”
“No, I was just worried about my past chemistry result.” Sebenarnya sebelum ni beliau ada tanya what happen to my chemistry result in Asasi UiTM.
“Oh, you don’t have to worry on that. I see that your SPM result is good.” Tiba-tiba beliau berbahasa Melayu dengan I, “Saya jugak from UiTM. Saya tahu chemistry tu sebenarnya is pure physics and chemistry. Memang susah. Kalau saya ada anak-anak saudara ke UiTM, I would definitely warn them about chemistry and physics. Jangan risau la okay.”
“Thank you very much Prof.”
Apa pun I’m proud to have reached this far. InsyaAllah. =)
