The Life Of A Med Student

There's only 5 days left before I step in MSU Malaysia as a first year medical student. All this time, I was wondering what could be the real feeling as a med student? No one would ever know unless you are a medical student.

Back before I chose to pursue my studies in medicine, people around me gave many points of view about taking this degree.

"Hey, medicine is very tough! Forget about it."

"Are you willingly to work all day long as a doctor? You wont have enough sleep babe."

"If I were you, I don't want to be a doctor. Doctor has no social life! You will stuck in the hospital 24 hours a day. No parties, no games, no vacation, no FREEDOM.. no bla bla bla bla bla.."

I just said : "WHATEVER!"

Then I search YOUTUBE about life of a med student. I found this video :

Yes, it scares hell out of me watching this video. Am I ready for this?

Honestly, sometimes I feel like I want to give up of hoping to become a doctor. But soon after that, I realize that I have no other careers that interests me. Hey, I've been aiming to be a doctor since I was a kid! That is the only thing that I've been thinking since I started school. Now that I got the opportunity, WHY would I give up?!

I keep on searching a video that will boost my confidence to enter medicine field. I'm glad I found this video. Just skip the timeline to minute 7.02 and watch what Dr. Anthony J. Silvagni, Dean And Professor College of Osteopathic Medicine Nova Southeastern University:

"All professions have challenges. And someone has told you do not go into medicine because it is no longer what it used to be. But if you follow your dreams, you will find that the joys and satisfactions will exceed anything you can imagine. So PLEASE DO NOT SURRENDER because of others' opinions."

I always remember what my father said to me: "Doktor kerja memang susah, tapi tu lah kerja yang paling mulia."

My parents are the one that will always support my doing. I'm thankful of that.

Now I did know one thing. 'Medicine may be difficult path but I will enjoy doing it.' As a Muslim I also realize that my instinct to choose this field is a guidance from ALLAH s.w.t and He chose me to take this responsibility.

I just want to say, I'm happy with what I will be studying. I hope you too okay! :)

  2. to be honest..i don't think a med school student's life was that bad..people always judge us as 'no life' teens, & our only friend is books, have no time to enjoy our teens age to the fullest ...but da~, screw 'em all..we do have life and we enjoy it so very much!..we call it 'student life'..^^
